QMC Staff trying Nordic walking for the first time in Launch Week
Nordic Walking is an exciting new walking technique using specially designed walking poles. For most people, it burns 20% more calories than normal walking at the same speed. It makes walking more comfortable and more interesting too. Using the poles strengthens and tones your back and arms. It also releases the tension in the neck and shoulders that is often experienced by people in sedentary jobs.
This activity started out in Finland in the 1990's and since then has been taken up by approximately 5 million people in Europe, the USA and Canada. Nordic walking arrived in London last summer and is becoming increasingly popular in the south of England. This summer is a great time for Nordic Walking to be launched in the East Midlands!
Q-Active instructor, Catherine Hughes, also has her own website with details of her own Nordic Walking group classes, nearly every day of the week including Saturday, including more pictures and an animation of Nordic Walking. It also has details of her personal training sessions.
