I am a Chartered Health Psychologist by background with around twelve years experience in health services research, gained from many posts, the majority of which I have held here at QMC. Currently employed as a Lecturer in Nursing (Adult Branch) in the University of Nottingham School of Nursing my present teaching areas include evidence-based practice, research methods, public health and statistics and older person's healthcare. I have several administrative responsibilities and supervise dissertations, which range from nursing dissertations in stress management to research supervision of a trainee forensic psychologist in HM prison services.
Q-Active is an exciting, innovative and ground-breaking initiative in workplace health and my role is to provide the evidence-base for our workplace wellness initiative that may provide a blueprint for future schemes. I am responsible for the design and conduct of large programmes of research and evaluation and work with sandra to conduct physical activity and exercise interventions, nutrition and weight management interventions, smoking audits and interventions, alcohol research, stress and well-being audits and interventions, web-based health education, occupational health screening and many other workplace interventions for health. I am also responsible for securing external research funding and supervising junior researchers and volunteers assisting with our projects.
I have a passionate interest in health and well-being and am proud to be part of this enthusiastic team responding to key government policy. Aside from research I get involved with all aspects of the project and you may catch me Nordic Walking around the perimeter road! Like Sandra, I am healthy and active in my personal life. I enjoy hillwalking and recently climbed Ben Nevis (right). My favourite pastimes are cycling and weight training.
