Core Stretch & Strength

A fusion of Pilates, yoga and Static Strength Exercises.

Yoga

Encompassing all styles of yoga, these classes are suitable for all levels. Yoga is used to release physical and mental tension.

Belly Dancing

Belly dancing gives a complete cardiovascular workout and strengthens the abdominal muscles, and is gaining popularity among men and women who want to lose weight. An intense sixty-minute session may burn around 330 calories. Since one focus of belly dancing is to gain strength and flexibility in the abdomen, the dance form is said to be one of the quickest ways to achieve firmness.

Training Stations

A complete workout to get fit, have fun, and tone up!

Boxercise

Using techniques developed from boxing, boxercise combines the use of both aerobic and anaerobic energy systems with the systematic recruitment of both fast and slow twitch muscle fibres to tone the body.

Some Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I go for the classes?

Most Enhance classes will be held in the staff gym in the physiotherapy department, on A Floor, QMC. This is in East Block, on the corridor between fracture clinic and East block lifts. There may be some classes held in the Well-Being Room on D Floor in the main hospital. This is near to East Block lifts. Check the current timetable for the location.

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes. All classes must be booked using the online system and paid for in advance on presentation of your University Card at the General Office, B Floor QMC (open 8.30am-4pm). This is in the main entrance of the hospital, near to the ambulance waiting area.

What if I can't get into a class?

If you arrive late the class may already have started. Therefore we ask you to arrive in plenty of time to be fair to others and to ensure you can take part.

Can I get to the class through the medical school?

If you come for a class in the evening then there is a possibility that some doors from the medical school to main hospital may be locked - please check your route and access in advance.

I'm based at City Hospital - can I go to classes there?

In time, there may be access to some classes over at City Hospital Campus although we will let you know if and when these are available. In the meantime you can attend the QMC classes. Please check the website for the latest details.

I'm not based at QMC - can I still come to classes?

If you are staff or student based at another site, you are welcome to attend any of the classes. However, if you're a student and applying for a free membership, please only apply if you are certain you can be at QMC for the classes. This way there will be no wasted memberships.

I'm a student - can I get a free pass in the future if I didn't get one this time?

Yes. They will be offered on a first-come first-served basis every term for the next year only. So if you want one, register as soon as the registration form goes live each time round!

I'm a student - Can I get a free pass next term if I've already had one?

Yes. They will be offered on a first-come first-served basis irrespective of who held them the previous term.

I'm a student - What if I got a free membership but don't want it anymore or can't make any of the classes?

Tell us as soon as possible. This way we can allocate your free sessions to someone else.

I'm a student - Does it matter what course I am on or what I am studying?

No. Last year these were only been available to Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences students, but now they are open to all students from any campus.

What if I want to do something but it's not offered on the timetable?

Tell us. We want to offer a service that you will use so we may be able to accommodate your needs if enough people show an interest. Alternatively, attend one of the many classes provided by the University Sports Centre.
